The weather in the highlands is pleasant during the day (20º C). Nights are cooler (10º C). The rainy season (Winter) starts from October to May and the dry season (Summer) from June to September.

The main activities in this region are: flower production; fabrics; goods as: potatoes, fruits and veggies.

The capital city Quito is located here; other important cities are: Cuenca and Ambato.

Quito is located in a valley sorrounded by mountains; Quito has a unique mix between a cosmopolitan city and the old colonial town.

The modern part of the city has different residential and bussiness areas with beautiful buildings: malls, coffe shops, restaurants and entertaintment places.

Quito’s old town was declared “Cultural Heritage of Humanity ”in 1979; buildings preserve the original Spanish architecture; and art from the colonial period (barroque and gotic) on all the churches and now museums like: the San Francisco church, the Compañía of Jesus church, San Agustín church and Museo de la Ciudad.
