From December to May is the rainy season (Winter), when the weather is usually warmer. The dry season is between April and November, cooler and less humid.

The main activities in this region are commerce related; focused on fishing and producing goods as: rice, coffe , cocoa and bananas.

The main cities here are Guayaquil (The biggest port in Ecuador) and Manta.
