Program Overview
There are several social programs in Quito - Ecuador established by public Institutions and local NGO’s to assist children of poor areas, many of them spend an average of 8 hours a day on the street: selling candies, looking after their brothers and sisters, or doing housework. The projects have been created to keep children safe and, give them the opportunity to learn new interesting things according to their age.
The main objective of these programs is to improve the educational opportunities and life quality of children and families, who don’t have the economical support to afford private education, food, medical insurance, or other needs.
Volunteers are the basic resource for the project. Time and love are the most important things children need to reinforce their self esteem.
Location: The project is based in the Southern area of Quito.
Accomodation: Host families or volunteer house.
Meals: Half board, seven days a week.
Duration: 2 weeks minimum - 12 weeks maximun.
Dates: First Monday of the month, all year round.
Requirements: Minimum age 18.
Volunteers should be patient and willing to love children, and the strength to deal with emotional situations. Basic Spanish level is required.
