The Way of Life Association was created in 1996 to house children removed from the custody of their parents by the Brazilian Guardianship due to
complaints of abuse and violence and who remain in the institution while awaiting to return to their biological family or until adoption.
The home currently operates a house which shelters 14 children whose age of entry into the institution varies from 0 to 4 years. They try to
fulfill all the children’s needs, providing not only shelter, food and education but also assistance from doctors, psychologists, speech therapists, dentists, psycho pedagogues and all those volunteers who are willing to donate love.
The care house operates through monetary donations and from contributions of products and services. The organization also rises funding through a monthly bazaar. The COMTIBA (Municipal Council of Children and Adolescents) also provides a monthly aid which covers part of their expenses.
The Association Chairman is responsible for all the administrative work, counting with the support of a board of four members. Both the president and the other directors are unpaid volunteers.
The children’s daily care is carried by three employees and a driver. A social worker monitors the children, their biological families and keeps the Court of Childhood informed through reports. All these employees are paid and registered.
