VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Volunteering and working ¡n an ¡nternational organization ¡s a great way to practice and improve your Spanish skills in real life situations. In addition to help créate a better society you can use this invaluable working experience to enhance your resume and bring different perspectives and skills to your future employers, universities, projects, career, etc.
Once your Spanish has reached a high enough level (usually 50-80 lessons), you can take a Volunteer or Internship program ranging from 4 to 24 weeks. This intemship or volunteer position is usually unpaid. You will use your Spanish skills ¡n real business life, or while you help at foundations, schools, hospitals, agricultura! projects, travel agencies, or environmental projects. This program is available all year round.

Immersion in a local Project
This experience allows a direct contact with local people and helps the volunteer learn and understand the culture more effectively. In addition the constant contact with native Spanish speakers helps the volunteer to truly learn the Spanish language.
This international working experience enhances the ability of young people to think globally. This is an invaluable skill in the modern world. In addition, this international experience could open many doors for future academic or professional goals.
The exposure to another culture leads to open minds and understand cultural differences, which is an invaluable skill for future leaders.

You must send a current CV (resume) and a letter of interest from you, in which you select three áreas of interest where you would like to work or volunteer. Letters of recommendation are highly recommended but not necessary. After the Spanish course, you can continue being accommodated with a host family or at a hostel, student residences, or apartments.
Placement usually takes between 2-4 weeks after the application was received

Here is a sample list of the projects we currently work with, and a brief description of each one. After receiving an application, resume, and letter of interest, ORDEX will match the volunteer with an organization and send the placement for the student's approval. ORDEX will make every effort to match volunteers with their current interests, although placement in their first choice of interest ¡s not guaranteed.

Organization: Centro Los Niños de la Calle
Nature of the Institution: This is a private organization supported by UNESCO that provides counseling and support for street children and their families to enable the children to return home. The organization works within the public school system as well as directly with the children in the streets. They also provide temporary homes for the children. The Centro is located in the northern part of Quito.
Responsibilities: There are two types of positions available. Those with Social Work or Psychology specializations can help the regular full time staff with counseling for the children. Those without specific qualifications can help in areas such as administration, homework activities, and general care of the children.

Organization: Sala de Artes Kingman or Guayasamín
Nature of the Institution: A privately funded art museum located in the commercial part of Quito. It promotes understanding and knowledge of modern art. The exhibits are mainly works by Guayasamín and Kingman. There is also a section displaying pre -Inca works. Guided tours are offered as well as art related lectures.
Responsibilities: Those volunteers who are professional artists can give art classes to children and adults, other volunteers are needed to talk about art to children and encourage their participation in museum activities. Translators are needed for correspondence and logging from the guest book. Also, help is needed in recruiting and training local volunteers.

Organization: Salinas de Bolívar Community
Nature of the Organization : This is a project created to develop the community of Salinas, a very small town, located in the Andean Región (Approx. 4 hrs from Quito), where different kind of small businesses have been created with the collaboration of volunteers from all over the world.
Responsibilities: The volunteers will help the community members perfomning activities in the following áreas:
Cheese and chocolate elaboration, small factory on site.
English teaching for community people.
Wool sweaters confection and handicrafts.
Help in feeding and caring for the animals.
Tourism and marketing development
Accommodation: This service will be provided by the community. Depending on the number of volunteers and season of the year, you will live on site or at a volunteer family.
Organization: International Red Cross – Ecuador
Nature of the Institution: Its mission is the promotion of social programs including: education, health prevention, basic infrastructure and the general well-being for poor communities.
The International Red Cross offers the following areas for volunteers:
Assistance to the health and dental department.
English teaching for the children in the communities
Therapists and laboratory assistants.
Responsibilities: Volunteers can work in the area where they express most interest or where their skills are most needed. The work mainly involves interaction with local communities in different projects close to Quito.
The Organization develops projects in various areas; therefore volunteers can get advantage of this great opportunity. Mobilization is given by the Red Cross during their visits out of the city

ORDEX Amazon Conservation 10 week Program
(Amazon and Red Cross)
INCLUDES:
2 weeks Spanish lessons one-to-one 4 hours per day.
4 weeks of Conservation project in the Amazon region.
6 week host family or hostel accommodation for the group.
21 meals per week in all locations.
Transportation: Transfer in from airport to family or hostel, transportation from Quito to the project in the Amazon region, transportation from Amazon project back to Quito family or hostel, transfer out from Quito family or hostel to airport.
ORDEX coordinator to bring the group and settle them at the Amazon project

Our Schools
Our partner schools are located right in the heart of the city, surrounded by modem buildings, galleries, universities, malls, dance clubs, and monuments of colonial history and Indigenous heritage. An experienced team of teachers, all with university qualifications and many years of experience, help students of all levels to achieve their full language learning potential
One-to-One Course Method
It is an excellent program, which includes 20, 25, or 30 lessons per week. You will make rapid progress and your teachers will always be happy to incorpórate material of special interest to you into the course. This method is ideal from beginners to advanced level students.

School Activities
Included in the one-to-one tuition program are weekly activities coordinated by each school. These activities include dancing lessons (Salsa, Merengue, etc.), cooking lessons, Outdoor Sports, among others. Generally these activities take place in the afternoon and are offered in a weekly or biweekly basis.

Homestay with Ecuadorian Family
Living with an Ecuadorian host family is a great way to experience the Ecuadorian culture. Our host families are screened carefully before selection. They usually have experience hosting intemational students and know about their needs and concerns. The student will be placed in a single or double room and will have 14 meals a day. This is by far the best way to immerse the student in the country's culture and language
Shared Apartments/ Residences
ORDEX can offer apartments or residences accommodation within easy traveling distance of your school. Usually it consists of twin or triple bedrooms. The apartments or residences offer a good degree of independence and still provide daily interaction with fellow intemational students, and the chance to practice your Spanish skills after classes.
Hotels / Hostels
If you would prefer to stay in private accommodation, then we are happy to help you find suitable hostels and hotels within traveling distance from any of our Schools.
Excursions:
Excursions are offered once a week and are usually scheduled from Friday aftemoon until Sunday. The students are accompanied by a guide and sometimes a member of ORDEX Cultural Exchange, depending on the group size. We offer discounted pnces and services for our students.

OPTIONS
Galápagos
We offer custom designed itineraries with multilingual naturalist guides, trained at the Charles Darwin Research Station. Yachts are the preferred way to visit the ¡slands, where you can practice different sports like: scuba diving, snorkeling, and excursions through different islands.
The Andes
The "Avenue of the Volcanoes" is a región that offers the entire flora and fauna of the Andean región, you can visit the magnificent volcanoes and Protected Áreas such as: Chimborazo, the highest volcano in the world, the Cotopaxi National Park, Illinizas Mountains, among others.
The Amazon Region
Baños is a very nice and touristic town "The door of the Amazon Region", in this place you can find: waterfalls, mineralized pools, night life, the Tungurahua active volcano and much more ....
The major area of the Ecuadorian Amazon region covers approximately 12,000 h, supporting exuberant vegetation typical of humid tropical forests. In the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve you can see an incredible variety of animals and plants, five different ethnic groups live within the Reserve, the Siona - Secoya, Quichua, Cofán, and Shuar. Here you will have the opportunity to discover the wild and fascinating world of the jungle by canoe and on foot.
The Coast
"Ruta del Sol" is the best option when visiting this region. You can start your trip in Machalilla National Park, which features incredible beaches, such as: Los Frailes, Isla de la Plata, Tortuga, and also whales observation during the months of July - September.
Other beaches located in this route are: Montañita, known for its Surfing Annual Contest, Olón, Punta Carnero, and Salinas.
Guayaquil
The second principal city in Ecuador, is a fabulous place to visit during your trip to the Coast.
